WHY MIGHT CHILDREN DEVELOP AT DIFFERENT RATES IN DIFFERENT AREAS? Sequence of development: the usual order in which development occurs. Ie. A baby’s physical development may begin with rolling over, then sitting up, crawling and then walking, whereas another baby may sit up, followed by walking but never actually crawls. A child who has learning difficulties should be encouraged to develop in all areas to the best of their ability and as much as they can. Health If a child suffers from poor health or a physical disability or impairment, this may affect their developmental opportunities. For example, a child who has a medical condition or impairment may be less able to participate in some activities than other children. This may initially affect physical development, but may also restrict social activities, for example, on the playground. The child’s emotional development may also be affected, depending on their awareness of their needs and the extent to which they are affected. External Factors: Poverty and deprivation: Poverty and deprivation are likely to have a significant effect on pupil development. Statistics show that children who come from deprived backgrounds are less likely to thrive and achieve well in school, as parents will find it more difficult to manage their children’s needs, which will in turn impact on all areas of their development. These will all affect the way in which pupils are able to respond to different situations. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. - 1779 Words

On August 28, 1963, in a monumental moment in American history, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. delivered his powerful â€Å"I Have A Dream† speech in front of a crowd of over 250,000 people on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., our nation’s capital. The year 1963 is of particular interest to me because it comes just 3 years after the end of the 1950s, a period that to this day receives mixed analysis when examined. To many the 1950s was considered to be America’s so called ‘happy days,’ but to others like Martin Luther King Jr. and the thousands of civil rights protestors that followed him and other leaders, the 1950s marked a period of social injustice and racial oppression. â€Å"I have a dream...† said Dr. King â€Å"that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: ‘We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal’† (King, 1964) It was not even a yea r later after delivering these famous words that on July 2nd, 1964 President Lyndon B. Johnson signed The Civil Rights of 1964 into law which permanently ended legal discrimination against individuals based on race, gender, nationality, and religion.
